Roscrea parking issue in court again

‘You have to stop doing this, you are causing difficulty to others,” warned Judge Marie Keane at Nenagh District Court to a pensioner who appeared before the court for repeatedly parking on double yellow lines outside of his house in Roscrea.

Neil Heffernan (84) of Abbey Street was summonsed for not paying a fine for parking on double yellow lines outside of his house on November 12 last.

“I said I’d do my best not to,” retorted the pensioner when it was explained that he had appeared before the court before for parking on double yellow lines, with the matter previously struck out with an undertaking that Mr Heffernan would stop parking there.

Garda Lawlor explained to the court that when Mr Heffernan parked on the double yellow lines, “it brings the road down to one lane”. He highlighted to the court that “there is parking on the other side of the road. He’d just have to walk further, that’s the crux of it,” explained the guard.

“You simply think you can do what you like,” stated Judge Keane about Mr Heffernan’s behaviour. “You can’t take the law into your own hands.

“There is a double yellow line for a reason; you are not entitled to park there.” Judge Keane convicted Mr Heffernan of the offence and fined him €100 with four months to pay.
