India Singh takes top Honours at Nenagh Open
Bowe Dental Nenagh Senior Open
Isabel India Singh took the major honours at the Bowe Dental Nenagh Lawn Tennis Club Open Championships last week when she won the Ladies Singles title, defeating Limerick Lawn’s Jennifer Eze in the final.
Isabel, a member of both Castleknock LTC and the prestigious Fitzwilliam LTC, has direct local connections, being a grand-daughter of Puckane and Nenagh tennis stalwart Betty Hunt.
There were three events in the tournament classified as championships events, the others being the ladies and men’s open doubles events and both had local winners. Anne-Marie Darcy and Helena Darcy won the ladies championship, defeating Yuan Yuan Lu-Flanagan (Limerick Lawn) in the final, while Eamonn Murtagh and Frank O’Keeffe defeated Ennis pairing David Flanagan and Stuart Holly in the men’s final.
Club President George McGrath expressed sincere thanks to Bowe Dental for its generous sponsorship of the tournament which had attracted a massive entry, sentiments also expressed by joint club captain Kathryn McDowell on behalf of herself and fellow captain Paraic O’Dwyer. Due to court and time constraints, players were confined to entering two events. We witnessed lots of quality and enjoyable tennis over the ten-day tournament and a number of notable player achievements, some, but not all, rewarded with final appearances.
Among the notable final winners in their categories were Borrisokane club members, Philip Austin and Karen McLoughney, who each won their allotted two events. Ruth Darcy, Jake Harte (Wilmer) and Aoife Davey (Roscrea) each featured in two finals, winning one and being runner-up in another.
It was another successful tournament for the club and George McGrath paid generous compliments to joint Club Captains, Kathryn McDowell and Paraic O’Dwyer, for their overall organisation of same. George also expressed his appreciation to the extensive back-up team performing the myriad of roles which contribute to a successful tournament.
