New sports facilities for Nenagh school
CBS Primary School Nenagh has secured planning permission from Tipperary County Council for new sporting facilities at its premises in Summerhill. The co-educational school – which currently has 260 pupils across ten mainstream and two autism classes – has been granted approval to develop a floodlit all-weather pitch and ball-wall at its current location near the centre of town.
Speaking in response to the decision, school principal William Greene welcomed the news and expressed delight on behalf of the entire school community. “CBS Primary School has a long and proud tradition of promoting sport, physical activity, and wellbeing among its pupils,” he said. “This commitment has been further strengthened with the recent approval to develop a new astro pitch and ball wall on our school grounds. The exciting project will provide enhanced opportunities for pupils to participate in a wide range of sporting activities, supporting both their physical and mental wellbeing. Once completed, the facility will also be a valuable asset for the wider local community.”
The emphasis now turns to fundraising and ensuring the school has sufficient money to meet the cost of the new development.
“The next phase is to move ahead and secure the funds necessary to complete the project over the coming years,” he said. “The BOM is hoping to apply for Community Sport Facilities funding in the coming months. The school has already organised successful fundraising initiatives this year, and has plans for other ventures in the future. All of these efforts will hopefully make the project a reality and we would be very grateful for any donations that would contribute to the project,” he added. More details with regard to donations are available from the school.
Established in 1862, CBS Primary School is an Edmund Rice Catholic School under the patronage of the Bishop of Killaloe. In recent years the school has become a co-educational school, catering for both boys and girls from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The school has also recently opened two new Autism classes.
