Flooding after the Nenagh River burst its banks last November.

Progress on Nenagh flood relief scheme

Progress is being made on a new flood relief scheme for Nenagh.

There have been calls for a comprehensive scheme to protect properties in the vicinity of Nenagh River, which has burst its banks several times in recent years.

The May meeting of Tipperary Co Council was informed that the OPW completed preliminary site surveys at the end of last year. A steering group has been established to oversee delivery of the Nenagh flood relief scheme.

Tender documents for the procurement of consultants to progress both the engineering and environmental elements of the scheme are currently being prepared. Option identification and preliminary design will commence following the appointment of the design team. This is expected to progress in 2026, subject to OPW approval.
