Three callouts for Killaloe Coast Guard
While Ballina-Killaloe enjoyed a few days of sunshine last week, the welcome increased activity on the Shannon resulted in three callouts for our Killaloe Coast Guard volunteers.
On Tuesday, May 26, at 8.15pm, the unit was tasked to assist a vessel with two persons on board experiencing engine difficulty south of Killaloe Bridge and drifting towards Ballina slipway. A boat crew launched from the Pier Head and located the vessel on the Tipperary shore south of the old Ballina/Killaloe Bridge. The vessel was taken on tow by the crew and with the assistance of a shore team, was safely moored at the public jetty in Killaloe.
At 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, the unit was tasked to assist a cruiser with engine difficulty, north of the Two Mile Gate on the Clare shore of Lough Derg. The vessel, with one person on board, was drifting south when the Coast Guard crew arrived on scene; a tow line was connected and the vessel was taken back to Killaloe where it was safely moored with the assistance of a shore team.
On Sunday, May 31, the unit was tasked at 4.30pm, to assist a cruiser with engine difficulty, south of Portumna. When the boat crew arrived on scene, the vessel was on tow by a powerboat that came to their assistance. The cruiser was safely moored in Terryglass Harbour and no further assistance was required.
Pier Head/Ballina Slipway Parking
Killaloe Coast Guard kindle request that members of the public using the Pier Head and Ballina Slipway areas, refrain from parking on the entrance lanes. Keeping these access routes clear is essential to allow the Coast Guard crews quick and safe access to emergency vehicles and rescue boats when responding to incidents.
Please avoid parking near the entrance to the Coast Guard Station, and only use the designated parking areas at Ballina slipway.
