New fire engine for Tipp
Thurles Municipal District, in partnership with Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service, is pleased to announce the delivery of a new fire engine for Thurles Fire Station, further strengthening emergency response capability across the district.
The vehicle is one of two new appliances recently supplied to Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service, funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, through the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM). The second vehicle has been assigned to Cashel Fire Station. Both appliances will officially enter operational service on 21 May 2026, following the completion of handover training for fire service personnel.
The delivery of these vehicles forms part of Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service’s ongoing fleet improvement plan, which aims to maintain a modern, reliable and fully equipped fleet to effectively serve communities throughout County Tipperary.
The new fire appliance is fitted with the latest firefighting and rescue technology, enhancing the ability of fire crews to respond efficiently to a wide range of incidents, including fires, road traffic collisions, rescues, and other emergencies across both urban and rural environments.
A formal handover event took place at Thurles Municipal District offices, attended by elected members, senior officials of Tipperary County Council, and fire service personnel. The event provided an opportunity to showcase the vehicle’s capabilities and highlight the continued investment in fire and emergency services across the county.
A spokesperson for Thurles Municipal District commented: “This new fire appliance represents a significant investment in public safety for Thurles and the wider hinterland. It ensures that our fire service personnel are equipped with modern, high-quality equipment to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. We acknowledge the support of the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management in making this investment possible.”
A representative of Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service, John Shinnors, Chief Fire Officer, added: “The addition of these new front-line appliances enhances our operational capacity and ensures that we can continue to deliver a high standard of emergency response. Maintaining a modern fleet is essential in supporting our crews and protecting communities across Tipperary.”
Thurles Fire Station plays a critical role in the provision of emergency services across the Municipal District, with trained personnel on call 24/7 to respond to incidents and safeguard lives, property and the environment.
