'Sextortion' reported in Nenagh

Gardaí are investigating a number of 'sextortion' incidents that have been reported in the Nenagh district over recent days.

Sextortion - or sexual extortion - is a relatively new form of cyber crime that involves a threat or blackmail of having intimate information, images or video clips shared without consent. The threat or blackmail may be to get the victim to do or refrain from doing something, or the threat or blackmail may be purely for financial gain.

Gardaí are advising those targeted by this extortion to not pay any money. Take screenshots, save messages and images, collect URL links to where the information is being shared, and report the matter to the gardaí.
