St Mary's Primary School band - 'Sr Stephanie's Marching Band' - made a welcome return for the St Patrick's Day parade.

Busy times for Nenagh school

Peace Proms

There was a palpable sense of pride and joy in St Mary’s Primary School as March proved to be a melodious month to remember. The talented Third Class pupils took to the stage for the much-loved Peace Proms in the University of Limerick on March 8.

The Peace Proms experience is one that remains with children for a lifetime, and this year’s Third Class rose to the occasion with remarkable enthusiasm. After months of practice, Mr Shanahan and Ms Shanahan’s classes joined voices with hundreds of other primary school children to perform in a spectacular celebration of music, unity and confidence. For many of the pupils, it was their first time performing on such a grand stage, and they did so with an energy and enthusiasm that reflected both their hard work and their enjoyment.

School principal, Mr O’Dwyer commented: “Our students have shown incredible dedication, talent and pride in representing our school. They embrace every opportunity with enthusiasm and spirit—we couldn’t be prouder.”

St Patrick’s Day

Closer to home, a cherished St Mary’s tradition made a triumphant and heart-warming return on the streets of Nenagh on St Patrick’s Day. The parading pupils offered their very own special moment of nostalgia and renewal to those present.

Sister Stephanie’s marching band, fondly remembered by past generations, made a welcome return to the parade after years out of the spotlight. Revived with dedication and community spirit, the band brought colour, rhythm and a deep sense of tradition back to the streets of Nenagh. The sight of the pupils from St Mary’s marching in step, instruments in hand, echoed memories of years gone by while creating new ones for today’s generation of pupils. It was a fitting tribute to Sister Stephanie’s legacy and a reminder of the enduring value of music, teamwork and community pride in St Mary’s Primary School.

Together, these two musical events highlight the vibrant spirit alive in St Mary’s classrooms and beyond. Whether on a concert stage or marching through the streets of Nenagh, the pupils of St Mary’s continue to shine, carrying forward traditions while embracing new opportunities.

The future is certainly bright—and musical.
