Nenagh unable to stall title challengers

Nenagh AFC 0-2 Ballynanty Rovers
Nenagh AFC went down at home to Ballynanty Rovers in the Premier League in Brickfield on Sunday.
Balla went into the tie knowing a win would push them to the top of the table, albeit with a couple of game extra played, so they were focused from the start.
Nenagh’s cause was not helped when regular goalkeepers were unavailable which meant Kieran Barr had to deputise between the sticks.
There was little he could do to stop Vinny Ryan opening the scoring on the half hour mark. Ten minutes later, Kane Connolly struck a second goal.
Nenagh never gave up the fight and had Balla under pressure for periods but for all their efforts were unable to break down a solid Balla backline.

Premier ‘A’ League
Newport Town returned to form with a 3-0 win over Carew Park on Sunday.
Callum O'Connell after twenty minutes. The visitors were dogged throughout but with five minutes remaining Christy Doyle set up Brian O’Sullivan for the crucial second score. The same pair combined again in the final minute for O’Sullivan’s second and Newport’s final goal.
Lower Leagues
The Division 1B Calvert Cup kicked off on Sunday when Jonathan Lawlor scored the only goal of the game for Nenagh AFC ‘B’ at Kilfrush and they will now play Kilmallock in the quarter finals.
In the Division 1B League, an important game at the foot of the table saw Newport Town ‘B’ take three vital points in a 3-2 win at home to Croom United.
Conor McHugo and James Kirk scored for Newport when they were locked at 2-2 with five minutes remaining before veteran striker Keith Mawdsley struck the all-important winner.
In Division 2A, Cian McAuley and Daniel Fogarty netted for Lough Derg but they went down 4-2 to leaders Hyde Rangers.
In Division 3A, Callum Foley was on target for Lough Derg ‘B’ but Castle United replied with three to take the spoils.
In Under 17 Division 1, Newport Town beat Aisling Annacotty with goals from S Bridgeman and K Bars. Lough Derg hit Regional United for five courtesy of G O'Shaughnessy (2), G McWey, O Shanahan and O Siedel while the ‘B’ team fell 5-2 to Division 2 leaders Caherconlish. M Jugowiec and P Ryan netted for Lough Derg.
