Nenagh Tidy Towns to hold AGM next week

Nenagh & Environs Tidy Towns Committee have been working together for many years and have entered the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition for over 18 years.

They first achieved bronze medal status in 2015 and have consistently maintained this status since then, increasing their marks annually.

But the main aim of the committee is not the competition – they are driven by the objective to make the town a better place to live, work, recreate and visit. Their work has contributed to improving the physical appearance of the town; enhancing the sense of place, pride and community spirit; contributed to the economic well-being of the town as the appearance of the town helps encourage new business setups and incentivises those working in the area to reside in Nenagh. This results in increased footfall, benefitting the retail and hospitality sectors.

The committee would all agree that volunteering with the Tidy Towns brings benefits to them individually through making new friendships, interacting with people of varying disciplines and offering the opportunity to learn new skills. It is a role that is sociable and fulfilling.

Recognising that there is a need to encourage others to get involved, the committee is now calling on the people of Nenagh, whether originally from the town or new residents, to ask them to share their views and maybe lend a hand. This is with a view to getting new ideas for continuous improvement and increasing awareness of sustainability, encouraging better use of resources, looking at appropriate planting, biodiversity and waste management practices such as upcycling, reusing and recycling.

Just one hour a month could make a huge difference! The Nenagh & Environs Tidy Towns Committee are holding their AGM in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh on Monday, March 30, at 7pm. All are most welcome, and no experience is necessary – all is required is a love for our town of Nenagh. Light refreshments will be provided on the night.
