Milestone celebration for Knockanacree Woods Parkrun

Last Saturday, March 21, Knockanacree Woods Parkrun/Parkwalk celebrated their seventh anniversary and 275 events.

This is a great milestone for the volunteer group who organise and manage this weekly event.

The first Knockanacree Woods Parkrun/Parkwalk took place on Saturday, March 23, 2019, and continued on a weekly basis surviving the lengthy hiatus during the Covid pandemic lockdown series and given the nature of the woodland location, occasional closures due to storm and tree fall damage.

The event makes use of the popular looped trails developed by the Cloughjordan Community Development Association in partnership with Coillte Forest, the woodlands setting, and the undulating nature of the woodland trails makes the Knockanacree event one of Ireland’s most attractive Parkrun/Parkwalk events, regularly attracting visitors from far and wide.

Knockanacree Woods Parkrun/Parkwalk is an excellent example of how collaborative relationships deliver social and community good with the CCDA, Cloughjordan Community Employment Scheme and Coillte Forest all involved in supporting its ongoing success.

Parkrun/Parkwalk is a free, community led event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. It is a positive, welcoming and inclusive event with no time limit and no one finishes last. It is a 5km course, taking place each Saturday morning at 9.30am and everyone is welcome to come along. There are currently 161 parkrun/parkwalk events around the country taking place every weekend, with more locations being added all of the time, all making valuable contributions to peoples social, physical and mental health.
