Extension plan for special school
The Board of Management of St Anne's Special School in Roscrea has submitted a planning application for a major extension of the school.
At 1,362 square metres, the new single-storey extension beside the existing school building is to comprise of six classrooms, a library, clinical and sensory rooms, ancillary support spaces and a courtyard play space. The proposal also includes an extension to the existing boiler room, an accessible covered set-down area, new parking layout, a new wastewater treatment system and all associated site works.
Opened in 1971, St Anne’s is presently home to 49 pupils and 38 staff. The applicant states that the set-down area will provide an “accessible, sheltered and comfortable arrival experience” for pupils.
“The sensory garden is a fundamental part of the teaching and caring regime. Access to the garden, which is a safe environment, can become a transition zone, facilitating students to develop coping skills in a less controlled environment outside the classroom.”
Tipperary Co Council is to rule on the application by March 8.
