Nenagh students in robotics competition
FERGAL QUINN NATIONAL AWARD
We are incredibly proud of Molly May Gillick, who was one of the students who achieved the best Leaving Certificate Applied results in Ireland, which was based on her Leaving Certificate Applied results from the State Examinations Commission in August 2025.
She was honored with the LCANA Fergal Quinn National Award at the LCANA National Conference in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, on Saturday, January 24.
Her dedication and hard work truly paid off, and this prestigious recognition is a testament to her exceptional achievements.
Ms O Keeffe, the staff and management of Nenagh College, would like to congratulate her for setting such high standards, achieving such amazing results and making us so proud.
MEP AND TD VISIT
Transition Year students at Nenagh College recently welcomed MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú and TD Ryan O’Meara for an engaging and informative visit focused on politics, society and civic participation.
The visit gave students a valuable opportunity to take part in open discussion on a wide range of political and social topics, encouraging them to think critically about current issues at both national and European level. Students asked thoughtful questions and showed great interest in how decisions made by politicians can impact everyday life.
During her visit, MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú commended last year’s Nenagh College students who participated in the Think Languages competition, achieving a place among the top four schools nationally.
She also praised this year’s cohort for continuing that success by placing in the top ten schools.
She highlighted the importance of learning languages in today’s Europe and spoke of her own strong love for the Irish language, encouraging students to value and take pride in their linguistic heritage.
Nenagh College would like to thank MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú and TD Ryan O’Meara for taking the time to visit the school and for their enthusiasm, insight and encouragement.
Their visit was a valuable and inspiring experience for students and staff alike.
TY YOUNG COOK COMPETITION
Nenagh College students Lily O'Brien and Tuireann O'Brien proudly represented their school at the TY Young Cook Competition 2026, held in Archerstown on Wednesday, January 28.
The pair showcased strong culinary skills and a clear commitment to using locally sourced produce throughout the competition.
Although they did not place on this occasion, they impressed the judges with a well-executed and creative menu, which included a light vanilla sponge with buttercream and homemade strawberry sauce, as well as a chicken and broccoli quiche served with a fresh side salad.
The students also highlighted the importance of supporting local suppliers by using winter salad leaves from Happy Roots in Belleview, Coolbawn, and organic eggs from Wild Orchid Organic Garden in Luska, Coolbawn.
Their use of local produce reflects several of Tipperary ETB’s core values, including community, excellence, and respect, demonstrating a strong connection between the school, local producers, and the wider area, while also showcasing high standards in their culinary work.
VEX ROBOTICS SUCCESS
Our VEX V5 Senior Cycle team performed exceptionally well, placing fifth overall in a highly competitive field. Their engineering notebook was of an excellent standard, and the students’ sportsmanship and professionalism were consistently praised throughout the day. In recognition of their dedication, collaboration, and hard work, Nenagh College was honoured with the Judges Award, celebrating the team’s overall achievement and work ethic.
We were also delighted to share the experience with a fellow Tipperary ETB school, Coláiste Dún Iascaigh. Both schools formed an alliance for the Quarter Finals.
While they narrowly missed out on progressing to the Semi Finals, the collaboration showcased the strong teamwork and mutual respect between the schools.
Congratulations to all students involved for representing Nenagh College with such pride, skill, and enthusiasm.
VEX IQ (JUNIOR CYCLE)
Congratulations to our Junior Cycle students, who took part in their very first VEX IQ robotics competition. This was also the first year Nenagh College participated in VEX IQ, making the achievement even more special.
The team performed brilliantly, showing excellent skills in building, coding and collaboration throughout the competition. They successfully created an autonomous programme that allowed their robot to score points independently — an impressive achievement for a first-time team.
We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork and determination, and we can’t wait to see what this talented group will achieve in the years ahead.
