New Institute shine at All-Ireland Club Snooker Championships
New Institute Snooker Club enjoyed an outstanding showing at the 2026 All-Ireland Club Snooker Championships in Killarney last weekend.
Both the ‘A’ and ‘C’ teams who won the Munster titles the previous weekend, again produced performances that highlighted the depth and strength of the club on the national stage.
The ‘A’ team once again proved themselves among Ireland’s elite, reaching the All-Ireland final after an impressive campaign. They topped their group with a perfect record, winning all four group matches before defeating Roadstone in the quarter finals and Blackstaff in a hard-fought semi-final.
In the final, they came up against a formidable Crucible ‘B’ side from Cork and, despite a determined effort, ultimately fell short.
While missing out on back-to-back All-Ireland titles, it was nonetheless a tremendous achievement and a strong attempt to defend the crown they claimed last year. The campaign concludes with New Institute finishing 2026 as Munster champions, further underlining their consistency at the highest level.
The ‘C’ team also showed great promise throughout the competition. They started strongly with a win in their opening group match and were unlucky not to progress further, narrowly losing to Tuam and Roddy’s of Belfast, who went on to finish as runners-up, were pushed to the limit by New Institute ‘C’ in what proved to be one of their toughest group encounters.
Although they exited at the group stage, their performances were highly encouraging and reflect the growing strength and competitiveness within the club.
Looking ahead, New Institute will make history in 2027, as the ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ teams will all compete in the Premier section of the Munster Club Championships.
This marks the first time any club has entered three teams in the top grade since the introduction of the two-tier system — a remarkable milestone for the club.
New Institute would like to thank all players, supporters, and officials for their continued backing throughout the season.
