GoFundMe appeal for Aoife
Killaloe woman injured in Vietnam
The family of a 29-year-old Killaloe woman who sustained serious injuries following a fall while on holidays in Vietnam a number of weeks ago is appealing for financial assistance.
A GoFundMe page has been established to support Aoife Cahill, who suffered a fall while rock climbing in the southeast Asian nation. Aoife spent over a week in an induced coma but has subsequently regained consciousness and is said to be “showing positive signs,” according to her brother Ruairi, who set up the GoFundMe page.
The incident plunged Aoife’s family and friends into “unimaginable shock” and also left them requiring significant financial support due the variety of costs entailed in her care, which range from immediate medical treatment and hospital care to specialist treatment and, ultimately, safely transporting Aoife home once she is well enough to travel.
The 29-year-old, who was living in Perth and holidaying in Vietnam at the time of the incident, is described as a “kind, warm and adventurous” person who brings “so much light to the lives of those around her.”
Although a previous attempt to wake Aoife was unsuccessful, she was brought out of her coma on December 26, answering the family’s “biggest prayer". Writing on the GoFundMe page, her brother Ruairi thanked donors and well-wishers for their “overwhelming” response and expressed the family’s appreciation of the support and solidarity shown. €59,970 has currently been raised through approximately 1,400 donations, just shy of the €60,000 target. All funds will go directly towards Aoife’s immediate care and recovery process.
A further update on her condition is expected over the coming days.
