Kiladangan’s Quinn wins Communications vote

By Shane Brophy

Kiladangan’s Michael Quinn was elected the new communications (formerly PRO) officer of Tipperary County Board at Convention on Thursday.

The former North Board PRO completed his five-year term at divisional level recently, won the only vote at the meeting, earning 112 votes to see off the challenge of Brian Fogarty (Golden Kilfeacle) 87 and Tommy Barrett (Durlas Og) 11.

Quinn said he was “honoured” to be elected as the new communications officer whose role will be to liaise with the local and national media to relay to the public all the happenings in Tipperary GAA.

He said he was never good enough to wear the blue & gold of Kiladangan or Tipperary but helping out behind the scenes is the next best thing, name-checking previous county board officers from Kiladangan, former treasurers Seamus Hogan and Michael ‘Spike’ Nolan, and following in their footsteps.

Quinn succeeds Loughmore/Castleiney’s Jonathan Cullen who stepped down after reaching the five-year term limit.

He thanked all those who were supportive and helpful during his term, highlighting some of the many great occasions, including two Minor Hurling All-Ireland homecomings, an Under 20 All-Ireland Hurling homecoming, and standing in front of 45,000 people in FBD Semple Stadium to introduce the players and management who brought back the Liam MacCarthy Cup earlier this year.

“Being elected to the position of PRO/Communications Officer of Tipperary GAA was undoubtedly the greatest achievement of my life as a GAA volunteer,” he said.

Cullen now works in a full-time role with Tipperary GAA as Fundraising, Finance & Administration Officer.

The only other officer change was the formal adoption of Donie Nealon as the new President of Tipperary County Board, succeeding the Matt Hassett who passed away during the past year.
