Rosney driven to get back to the Lakeside in 2026

By Shane Brophy

Stephen Rosney admitted his disappointment at exiting at the last 16 stage of the 2025 WDF World Championship at the iconic Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey, England last week

The Nenagh man followed up his first round win over Scotland’s Jim McEwan 3-0 by taking out 14th seed Thomas Junghans from Switzerland 3-0. After taking advantage of a Junghans slip up to claim the first set, Rosney didn’t look back and check outs of 86, 61 and 72 saw him take the second set, reeling off eight legs on the spin to seal his spot in the last 16 against Ben Robb of New Zealand.

However, Robb’s impressive form as the highest average of the tournament continued as he took out Rosney 3-0.

“Well as the saying goes all good things come to an end.

I am gutted with my performance last night, no excuses it just didn’t happen for me on the night but that’s darts,” said Rosney on his Facebook page.

“Overall, I have loved every minute of my debut here at the Lakeside and it has made me more determined to make sure it will not be my last time.

“I want to thank everyone who travelled to support me, and everyone who has sent messages over the past week, it really does mean the world to have all yere support.

“Again, I cannot thank my sponsors enough for coming on board this journey with me as without ye this is not possible.

Bigger and better things to come in 2026.”
