Successful return for Canavan to the amateur ranks

Jordan Canavan recorded his first winner in Ireland since March 2022 when landing the two-mile five-furlong beginners' chase on the John Flavin-trained Aclass at Tramore on Tuesday.
The Thurles jockey, who rode eleven winners in the professional ranks, notched up his first success as an amateur when bringing the 7/2 chance home a six and a half-length winner from the Tom Mullins-trained 7/4 favourite Mount Shenshan. Canavan has ridden winners in America since his last Irish success.
With his Shane Foley-ridden 11/8 favourite Fleetfootsoldier in ninth place, Denis Hogan landed the opening the opening division of the eight-furlong handicap with the 28/1 chance Hell Left Loose at Dundalk on Wednesday.
Ridden by Nicola Burns for the Premier Racing Club, the nine-year-old led a furlong out and battled well to hold off the Dick Donohoe-trained 18/1 shot Hale Bopp by a shorthead to record his sixth career success.
Ben Coen gave trainer Stephen Thorne the first of his two winners on the day when partnering the three-year-old Far From Dandy to land third of the eight-furlong handicaps.
The Shamrock Thoroughbreds-owned 13/2 chance got up close to the line to beat Andrew Lee’s 16/1 chance Leopold The First by half a length.
Jack Kearney had a far easier time of it as the well-supported 5/2 chance Sir Les Patterson won the six-furlong handicap to complete the trainer’s double.
Trained by Kevin Coleman for his wife Kim, the two-year-old Dont Get Me Wrong landed the opening seven-furlong claiming race at Dundalk on Friday evening.
Ridden by Julian Pietropaolo, the 13/2 shot headed the Ado McGuinness-trained 11/4 favourite Coincidental Glory close to the finish to score by half a length and he was subsequently claimed by trainer Ger O’Leary for €12,000.
Ben Coen and Johnny Murtagh landed the concluding 10-furlong handicap with the strong 5/4 favourite Fixation. In the colours of JP Murtagh Racing, the three-year-old came with a late surge to pip the Noel Kelly-trained 11/2 chance Tribal Moon by a neck.
Owner/trainer John Ryan landed the two-mile one-furlong handicap chase with the 11/1 chance Drumgill at Fairyhouse on Saturday.
The six-year-old brought his tally to seven wins when coming from off the pace under Michael Kenneally to lead after the second-last fence before going on to score by two and a half lengths from the Gordon Elliott-trained 5/1 shot Touch Me Not.
