Multi-agency rescue in Killaloe-Ballina

Killaloe Coast Guard unit was tasked on Monday, November 17, at 4.58pm, following reports of a person entering the water south of Killaloe Bridge. The multi-agency response included two rescue boats and a shore crew from the local unit, Coast Guard Helicopter R117 from Waterford, Killaloe Fire and Rescue service, National Ambulance Service and An Gárda Síochána.

Within minutes, the first rescue boat was en route to the incident, and found the person being helped on board a moored vessel on the Ballina side of the river. The unit’s D class rescue boat was also launched from the public slipway in Ballina. A coast guard crew member boarded the vessel and carried out an assessment of the casualty, who was then wrapped in warm blankets, and monitored until the arrival of an ambulance a short time later. Coast Guard and fire and rescue crews worked together to transfer the casualty from the vessel to the awaiting ambulance, and the casualty was transported to University Hospital Limerick.
