Woman dies in Moneygall house fire
The community in Moneygall was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of a local woman in a house fire last Friday night.
The woman, named locally as Mary Murray (65), died after a fire broke out in the house on the main street around 10pm. It is understood that she was the sole occupant of the house at the time.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene and the road through the village was closed for several hours.
Fire crews brought the blaze under control and the scene was preserved for technical examination.
A garda spokesperson said this week that investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing but that the incident is not being treated suspiciously.
Happening in the same week as the fire at Bernie’s Super Valu in nearby Roscrea, the incident has been met with great sadness in the local community.
Mary, who was formerly of Tipperary Town, was predeceased by her parents Joe and Margaret. Her passing is deeply regretted by her brother Michael and his wife Ursula, aunt Kathleen, cousins neighbours and friends.
Reposing in Donovans Funeral Home, Moneygall, this Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm. Removal on Saturday morning to St Joseph's Church, Moneygall, at 10.30am, arriving for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in Dunkerrin Cemetery.
