Clough’ CES celebrates

The Cloughjordan Community Employment Programme (more commonly known as the CE Scheme) is celebrating 28 years of operation in Cloughjordan and a special plaque presented by the Department of Social Protection was unveiled to mark this impressive achievement to the Cloughjordan Sponsoring Group. Nationally the CES network is marking three decades of operation and CE Schemes are a cornerstone of local development across Ireland providing supports, skills, and opportunities within local communities.

The Cloughjordan scheme is part of wider parish groupings that includes Ballingarry and Ardcroney and over the years has supported hundreds of people in gaining skills, experience, and confidence and making a real difference to participants lives.

Cloughjordan CES carry out trojan work on behalf of the community, actively supporting local club and parish groups, especially Cloughjordan Tidy Towns with village enhancement measures and helping to keep the village looking so well for all to enjoy.

Cloughjordan CES also provides an essential service to the Cloughjordan Community Development Association in carrying out trail maintenance tasks for the CCDA’s popular recreational looped walking infrastructure at Knockanacree Woodlands and Scohaboy Bog SAC.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently undertook a review of the CE (and Tús) schemes and found them to have strong beneficial and positive impacts on the employment and earnings of participants.
