Gain of 10 points for Templemore Tidy Towns
The increase of 10 points in this year's national competition was very much welcomed by the local Tidy Towns committee, yielding a total of 338 marks out of a possible 550 (Carrick-on-Shannon, this year’s overall winner, were awarded 400.)
Many aspects of work undertaken during the year gained the adjudicator’s praises including the restoration and enhancement of the distinctive features of our planned town. The new library and enterprise centre, shop fronts including T Maher's, Kennedy's, Mockler's and Peter's, Georgian houses and churches were favourably commented on.
Landscaping, hanging baskets and containers in the Town square were admired. The Town Park with its Fairy Village, managed grass cutting and signage relating to features and duck feeding got particular mention. These achievements were possible with the help of Garda students, Ukrainian residents, local schools, Lions Club and continuing support from Templemore Development Association and Tipperary County Council. Credit must also go to the local county council staff for their ongoing cooperation and thanks to residents and business owners who presented their premises to a very high standard with floral displays and fresh paint work. In the adjudicator's concluding remark, he said: “Your sense of pride and dedication has enhanced the visual appeal and fosters a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. Keep up the good work.”
