LORRHA & RATHCABBIN

Congratulations and well done to the two Tidy Towns committee and volunteers who did well in the national Tidy Towns event held this year. Judging took place around the month of August in both Lorrha and Rathcabbin with Lorrha gaining 12 extra marks, up from 359 in 2024 to 371 this year. Rathcabbin did extremely well for a more recently formed group and they scooped an extra very encouraging 14 marks, up from 282 in 2024 to 296 this year.

Well done to both and keep up the good work.

All were entered in specific population size /county categories and the overall 2025 winning national prize was awarded to Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

The Portumna Tidy Towns Group wish to thank all volunteers, the community, local businesses, local estate residents, sponsors, local representatives, Galway Rural Development, Portumna Beo group, Galway County Council and all voluntary organisations for their continued support and assistance.

The Tidy Towns group also wish to thank members of the team that completed the Portumna Tidy Towns application for this prestigious annual national competition.

The application is a very comprehensive and detailed document that must be completed and submitted by early May every year.

The group are currently preparing projects for this year’s application, they are also planning to follow the national report guidelines and 2025/2026 recommendations to help make future community improvements to the town.

It includes many significant projects that will be focused on biodiversity, planting more native trees, creating bat/swallow/native species habitats, promoting recycling, sustainability, pollinator corridors, circular economy, heritage projects, green spaces improvements and restoring derelict areas.
