Nenagh watch on as rivals claim big wins

With Nenagh AFC pencilled in for a free weekend in the Premier League, a couple of their fellow strugglers picked up valuable points at the weekend to keep Nenagh mired in trouble.

Athlunkard Villa scored a last minute winner to take the points at Mungret Regional while on Saturday, Geraldines posted a 4-1 win over Regional United. The results mean Nenagh and Regional are now tied on ten points in the remaining relegation spot with Hyde Rangers already relegated after pulling out of the league.

Lower Leagues

In the Premier ‘A’ League, Newport Town faced a difficult assignment away to league leaders Kilmallock and they returned with a credible point following a 2-2 draw.

Brian O’Sullivan teed up Killian O’Malley to give Newport the lead after sixteen minutes but Steven Kiely’s goal levelled it for the home side ten minutes later. O’Sullivan was again the provider on the hour mark as O’Malley scored his second to restore Newport’s advantage.

The leaders were not to be denied however and with eight minutes remaining, Kiely scored his second to ensure a share of the spoils;

Newport Town ‘B’ also faced Kilmallock in Division 1B but had no such luck, going down 4-2 to the home side. Brian O'Sullivan gave Newport the lead but a hat-trick for Shane O’Brien saw Kilmallock take charge. Keith Mawdsley scored the second Newport goal.

The tight promotion race in Division 2A continues apace after the weekend results. Lough Derg continue to lead the way but they had to do it the hard way at home to Castle Rovers. Two goals from Cian Enright had Castle in control after eighteen minutes.

Two goals inside three minutes on the half hour mark by Daniel Fogarty and Cian O'Donoghue levelled the tie before Sean Fahy provided what proved the winner on the hour mark.

In the Munster Youth Cup Lough Derg advanced following a 4-0 win over Regional United. A hat-trick for Cadden Mudd and one from Sam Wallace did the trick.
