A delightful evening in Roscrea

Roscrea Heritage Society recently hosted an intimate and sold-out evening of music at the Black Mills, headlined by Ben Collins who delivered a passionate and engaging performance. Joined throughout the night by Aoife Kelly and Niamh Kennedy, the trio impressed with harmonious renditions of songs by Dougie MacLean, Amble, and Shane MacGowan to name a few. The night ended on a high with a moving version of The Parting Glass, earning a standing ovation. The Society wish to express their gratitude to the performers, to PJ Wright for photography, the OPW for the venue, Eileen for her support, and the audience for their continued backing.

SAVE THE DATE!

Friday, October 31. The society is looking forward to welcoming Carmel Minogue for what promises to be another fabulous evening of music in the mill. Carmel is a singer, harpist, guitarist, and heartfelt songwriter whose music is deeply rooted in her Roscrea heritage. Growing up in a home filled with music where both her parents sang and encouraged her love of song, Carmel began performing from a young age and went professional at just 17.

At 18, she made her television debut on The Late Late Show, and later toured internationally with the renowned Galway Comhaltas group, completing two worldwide tours. She spent a decade living in the U.S., expanding her musical palette and performing widely before returning home to Ireland. Her music has featured regularly on Tipp FM, and she has played across a range of stages from lively pubs to sacred ceremonies.

Carmel’s sound blends Irish ballads, Celtic melodies, folk, country, and touches of bluegrass all delivered with soulful authenticity and warmth. Now based in County Laois for nearly 30 years, she specialises in intimate performances for weddings, funerals, spiritual gatherings, and concert-style sessions.

Also, a holistic therapist and registered celebrant, Carmel’s passion for music remains her deepest thread - a powerful way to connect heart to heart, and to celebrate the beauty of life through song.
