Killaloe Coast Guard callout
At 12.23pm on Sunday last, Killaloe Coast Guard unit was requested to assist a 19-foot lake boat with two people on board that lost engine power and was stuck against the Eel Weir under Killaloe Bridge. A crew was launched from its nearby base at the Pier Head, while a shore team also responded by road to the incident.
Once on scene, a risk assessment was carried out by the boat crew and the Coast Guard boat was positioned holding off against the strong flow. The crew then passed a tow line to the vessel, and once the line was secured, the vessel was successfully towed to safety. At 1.20pm the unit stood down and returned to base.
