Gold for Terryglass!

The local community in Terryglass is celebrating a gold medal win in the Entente Florale Europe Awards.

The awards ceremony was held last Saturday in Velenje, Slovenia, marking the 50th anniversary celebration of the competition. The ceremony honoured towns and villages for their commitment to green spaces, sustainability and community spirit.

Terryglass was nominated by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht to represent Ireland in this prestigious European environmental competition. Maynooth in Co Kildare was also nominated and it too received a gold medal. Both towns received Special Characteristic Awards.

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary this week congratulated both towns and their Tidy Towns groups.

“What a fantastic achievement this is for Ireland. My department was delighted to nominate Maynooth and Terryglass to represent Ireland in this prestigious competition.

“Both groups are consistent high achievers in the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition and have now also excelled on the European stage,” Minister Calleary said.
