Sustainable skills for a brighter future
Partnership between Tipperary ETB and NTDC
Members of Nenagh Women’s Shed recently completed an inspiring eight-week course titled ‘Sustainable Me’, delivered in partnership between Tipperary ETB and North Tipperary Development Company (NTDC) at the Tyone Community Centre. Running through May, June and July, the programme gave participants practical tools to live more sustainably while saving money and improving wellbeing.
The Sustainable Me course explored a wide range of topics, including Healthy Cookery on a Budget, Sustainable Living in the Home, Energy Saving in the Home, and Sustainability & Technology. Each session blended expert tips with hands-on learning, ensuring participants could put new ideas into practice straight away.
Speaking about the course, Eoin Costello, Community Education Facilitator with Tipperary ETB, said: “This programme was all about empowering people with knowledge and skills they can use every day. Sustainability isn’t just about the environment. It’s also about making life healthier, more affordable and more enjoyable.”
Rachel O’Malley, Community Development and Environmental Climate Action Worker with NTDC, also praised the programme. “It was wonderful to see the group so engaged and enthusiastic. By sharing ideas, learning practical tips, and supporting each other, participants are now better equipped to make sustainable choices that benefit their homes, their community, and the environment.”
“Participants praised the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to share experiences with others in the group. “It was both educational and great fun,” said one attendee. “I’ve already made changes in my home that are saving me money and reducing waste.”
The Nenagh Women’s Shed has become a vibrant hub for friendship, creativity and personal development, and the success of the Sustainable Me course highlights the value of community education in supporting local groups.
This collaboration between Tipperary ETB and NTDC demonstrates the positive impact of partnerships in bringing relevant, engaging programmes to communities across the county.
