Tipperary Ladies Football Club Championships Round-Up

Senior Championship: The Tipperary Ladies Senior Football Championship has reached its halfway mark, and the race for semi-final places is heating up across both groups. With a mix of dominant performances, narrow escapes, and a few surprises, the competition is finely poised heading into the final rounds.

Fethard have laid down a strong marker in Group 1, winning both their opening games with an impressive scoring difference of +24. Their attacking form has been matched by defensive solidity, conceding just eleven points so far. Hot on their heels, Galtee Rovers and Clonmel Commercials are locked together with one win, one draw, and one defeat apiece.

Aherlow, with a game in hand, are also in contention after a big win over Galtee Rovers followed by a narrow loss to Clonmel Commercials. Cappawhite, despite battling performances, are still seeking their first win and face an uphill challenge to keep their hopes alive.

Key results so far include Fethard’s clinical 3-12 to 1-6 victory over Clonmel Commercials and Galtee Rovers’ high-scoring 3-16 to 2-7 triumph against Cappawhite.

In Group 2, Moyle Rovers have been the standout side, with two wins from two and a strong scoring difference of +17. Their 2-23 to 1-9 dismantling of Brian Borus underlined their attacking power.

Brian Borus remain level on points with Rovers, having edged out Cahir in a thriller before overpowering Thurles Sarsfields. Cahir, with a game in hand, are still well placed after a solid win over Boherlahan Dualla, while Thurles Sarsfields grabbed their first points with a 3-9 to 1-5 win over Boherlahan. Boherlahan Dualla, like Cappawhite in Group 1, are still searching for their opening victory.

The next round of fixtures on August 24th promises to be pivotal. In Group 1, Fethard’s clash with Galtee Rovers could go a long way to deciding top spot, while Aherlow meet Cappawhite in a must-win game for both. In Group 2, Moyle Rovers face Boherlahan Dualla and Cahir meet Thurles Sarsfields in matches that will shape the battle for qualification.

With just two rounds remaining, there’s little room for error. Expect fireworks as Tipperary’s top clubs push for a place in the knockout stages of what’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive championships in recent years.

Intermediate Championship: The Intermediate Championship has reached the halfway mark, and the competition is shaping up for an exciting run-in to September.

Templemore have set the early pace with a perfect record of three wins from three. Their most recent victory — a thrilling 3-10 to 4-5 win over Moyne-Templetuohy — kept them at the summit with six points and a healthy scoring difference of +18. They opened their campaign with a dominant 3-14 to 1-6 victory over Loughmore/Castleiney and have looked solid ever since.

Moyne-Templetuohy and Moycarkey/Borris sit just behind on four points apiece, both with two wins from three. Moyne-Templetuohy’s form has been impressive, highlighted by their huge win over Loughmore/Castleiney. However, they slipped up narrowly against Templemore in a high-scoring clash. Moycarkey/Borris, meanwhile, boast the second-best scoring difference in the championship, thanks in part to their demolition of Loughmore/Castleiney.

Ardfinnan and Mullinahone each have one win and two defeats. Ardfinnan edged Mullinahone 1-13 to 1-4 in their latest fixture, while Mullinahone’s highlight so far was a tight 1-3 to 0-8 victory over Moyne Templetuohy.

At the foot of the table, Loughmore/Castleiney are still searching for their first points. They’ve endured a tough start, conceding heavy scores against the top sides, but will be eager to turn fortunes around in the second half of the campaign.

The remaining fixtures promise drama, with Moyne-Templetuohy facing Moycarkey/Borris on August 24th in a clash that could have huge implications for semi-final places. Templemore will also be tested against Mullinahone that same day, while September’s triple-header could prove decisive in shaping the final standings.

With plenty still to play for and every side fighting for position, the second half of the championship is sure to deliver more high-scoring drama and close-fought contests.

Junior ‘A’ Championship: The race for the Junior ‘A’ Championship is heating up, with Holycross/Ballycahill leading the standings at the halfway mark.

Unbeaten in their opening three games, Holycross have picked up two wins and a draw, racking up an impressive 75 points for and a +25 scoring difference. Their 3-14 to 1-6 victory over Sliabh na mBan underlined their attacking power, while they also played out a thrilling 4-12 apiece draw with St Patricks.

Arravale Rovers sit just one point behind in second place with two wins from three. They edged St Patricks 2-9 to 2-8 in their most recent outing and have shown they can grind out results, despite a slightly negative scoring difference.

Sliabh na mBan are third on two points, having beaten Slieve Felim Rapparees in their opener before losing to Holycross. They have a game in hand which could see them close the gap on the leaders.

St Patricks are still searching for their first win but have two draws to their name, including the high-scoring clash with Holycross. Meanwhile, Slieve Felim Rapparees prop up the table after two defeats, conceding heavily but still showing scoring potential, particularly in their 5-4 to 3-17 loss against Arravale Rovers.

The second half of the campaign promises plenty of intrigue, with Holycross set to travel to Slieve Felim Rapparees on August 24th before Sliabh na mBan face Arravale Rovers on September 7th in what could be a key fixture in the title race.

Junior ‘B’ Championship: is only two games in, but Lattin Cullen/Emly and St Odhrans Silvermines have already signalled their intent with emphatic opening-round victories.

Lattin Cullen/Emly laid down an early marker with a resounding 7-13 to 1-5 win over Boherlahan-Dualla. Their attacking display left no doubt they’ll be contenders for top honours.

St Odhrans Silvermines were equally impressive, overcoming Golden Kilfeacle 5-10 to 1-6 in a dominant performance that also secured them two valuable points and a strong scoring difference.

Golden Kilfeacle and Boherlahan-Dualla, who each suffered heavy defeats in their openers, will now be eager to bounce back as they prepare for crucial matches in the coming weeks.

The next round on August 24th sees Boherlahan-Dualla hosting St Odhrans Silvermines, while Golden Kilfeacle take on leaders Lattin Cullen/Emly. The final group games on September 7th could decide the top two spots — with the Lattin Cullen/Emly vs St Odhrans Silvermines clash shaping up as a potential group decider.

Junior ‘C’ Championship: At the halfway stage of the Junior ‘C’ Championship, Moyle Rovers have set the standard with a perfect three wins from three. Their dominance has been clear, amassing 82 points while conceding just 28, including decisive victories over Templemore, Cahir, and Fethard.

Clonmel Commercials and Rockwell Rovers share second place on four points apiece. Clonmel Commercials began strongly with wins over Rockwell Rovers and Fethard, but a setback came against Cahir. Rockwell Rovers, meanwhile, have mixed a strong win over Cahir with defeats to Templemore and Clonmel Commercials.

Templemore hold fourth after a single win — an impressive 4-6 to 3-10 triumph over Rockwell Rovers. Cahir also have one win, courtesy of their 1-9 to 0-11 victory against Clonmel Commercials but sit below Templemore on scoring difference.

Fethard are yet to register a win but will target their August 24 meeting with Rockwell Rovers as a chance to turn fortunes around. The next round promises fireworks, with Clonmel Commercials taking on leaders Moyle Rovers in a clash that could shake up the standings.

Junior ‘D’ Championship: Borrisokane Gaels have made a perfect start to the Junior ‘D’ Championship, sitting top of the table at the halfway point with three wins from three. They’ve been dominant at both ends of the pitch, scoring 60 points while conceding just 35, and their 3-9 to 2-3 victory over nearest rivals Rockvale Rovers earlier this month underlined their title credentials.

There’s a real battle shaping up behind them, with Rockvale Rovers, Killenaule, and Ballyporeen all tied on four points. Rockvale began strongly with wins over Killenaule and Clerihan but slipped to defeat against the leaders. Killenaule, despite a narrow opening loss to Rockvale, bounced back with high-scoring wins over Roscrea and Clerihan. Ballyporeen have also been impressive, edging Roscrea and producing a superb 4-14 to 4-6 victory over Clerihan in their opener, but their defeat to Borrisokane keeps them off top spot.

At the bottom, Clerihan and Roscrea are still without a win and will need a strong second half to avoid finishing in the basement places. Clerihan have been competitive in spells but suffered three defeats, while Roscrea’s closest effort was a battling 3-2 to 5-14 loss to Killenaule.

With key fixtures ahead on August 24th — including Killenaule v Ballyporeen and Clerihan v Borrisokane Gaels — the next round could have a big say in the final standings.

Junior ‘D2’ Championship: At the halfway stage of the Junior ‘D2’ Championship, St Patricks (Group 1) and Sliabh na mBan (Group 2) have emerged as the front-runners in their respective groups.

In Group 1, St Patricks have been unstoppable so far, with three wins from three and an impressive +33 scoring difference. They’ve been free scoring, putting up 25 points against Arravale Rovers and 20 points against Mullinahone. Hot on their heels are Cappawhite, who have two wins from three and boast the best scoring difference in the competition at +44, thanks in part to their emphatic 26-10 victory over Slieve Felim Rapparees. Slieve Felim Rapparees sit third with one win, while Arravale Rovers and Mullinahone 2 remain winless, with Mullinahone deducted a point.

In Group 2, Sliabh na mBan have made a perfect start, winning both of their opening fixtures, including a hard-fought 6-6 to 5-5 win over Holycross/Ballycahill. Holycross are just behind on four points from three games, their two wins coming in dominant style, including a big victory over Ardfinnan who have one win to their name, while Moyne-Templetuohy and Rockwell Rovers are level on one point each after their drawn encounter earlier in the season.

With group games still to come on August 21st & 24th, including the mouth-watering clash between Sliabh na mBan and Ardfinnan, the race for semi-final spots remains wide open.
