Éire Óg Annacarty/Donohill made a strong start to their senior camogie championship campaign with a nine-point win over Burgess/Duharra in an entertaining and physical contest in Annacarty on Saturday evening.

Annacarty’s sharpness in attack and accuracy from placed balls saw them lead 2-8 to 0-8 at the break before pushing on in the second half to secure victory.

Burgess-Duharra had plenty of positives with Ella Slattery and Caoimhe Maher working tirelessly in defence, while goalkeeper Ciara Holohan produced two superb late saves. Up front, Jenny Grace netted twice from close-range frees, supported by the efforts of Tara & Amy Kennedy.

Annacarty’s defence, despite conceding frees, was anchored by the excellent Nia Donovan at corner-back and the outstanding Anne O’Dwyer at wing-back.

In attack they were particularly impressive, with Jean Kelly causing constant problems and finishing with a superb 0-8 from play. Gemma Fox also stood out, striking two goals and converting frees with accuracy, while Danielle Ryan added five points from play in a strong team display.

Overall, it was a high-intensity game of quality camogie, with strong passages of play, physical exchanges, and some outstanding long-range scores from both sides.
