Callout for Killaloe Coastguard
On Tuesday, August 12, Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was called into action at 7.55pm. Watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s Rescue Co-ordination Centre on Valentia Island advised the Killaloe volunteers that a person who had been swimming near the Two-Mile-Gate had complained of feeling unwell after exiting the water.
The unit’s rescue boat responded and reached the scene within minutes of being alerted. A shore team also responded.
The swimmer was assessed by the Coast Guard’s first responders while the National Ambulance Service was also alerted and requested to mobilise resources.
Coast Guard volunteers kept the swimmer comfortable and continued to assess his condition until paramedics arrived and took the casualty into their care.
