Tipperary Ladies win National Track & Field League

Tipperary retained the National Track & Field League in Tullamore recently after a hard-fought battle with Galway in second and Louth in third position.

Tipperary overturned an eleven-point deficit in the semi-final to win by five points in the final.

Tipperary had athletes competing in all 21 athletic events on the programme, also eight of the squad are individual National champions in their chosen events past or present, with two current National senior champions.

The average age of the team is just under twenty years of age. There's strength in depth in women's athletics in Tipperary at present.

Among the leading performers were Jennifer O'Leary from Nenagh Olympic as the joint captain and Irish international athlete ran at both 800m & 1500m plus 4x400m relay, where along with Sophie Walker, Emer Brennan, and Anna Paxman ran an incredible 3m 56.84s for the event.

Clubmate and fellow joint-captain Laura Frawley and current Irish heptathlon champion, contributed 28.25 points to the team.

Carrick-on-Suirs Jade Barry in the Javelin secured another nine points for the Tipperary team, in her third year on the squad and just completed the Leaving Cert.

Laura Cooney from Clonmel AC, in her first year on the team running the 3k had a very solid run finishing second.

Clubmate Niamh Clarke was another first timer on the Tipperary team and competed in the 1.5k Walk finishing fourth in the final.

Emma O'Neill from Carrick-on-Suir AC competed in the Long Jump and landed another nine points in her third year on the team.
