O’Meara lauds effort in busy week to secure another title
By Noel Dundon
Kiladangan manager John O’Meara was lavish in his praise for the efforts of his charges when the final whistle sounded at the end of the North Tipperary Senior Hurling final on Sunday.
Knowing that his side was suffering the effects of a third game in eight days, the Clare native lauded the effort of the players who just about managed to stave off the strong Borris-Ileigh challenge to claim a tenth title for the club.
As his team celebrated on the field, John told the Nenagh Guardian: “This was a North final and they don’t come around too often. It was important for us to get a result here today and we are delighted that we did that. We had to work all the way for it, but we knew that would be the case.
“The North championship has been very condensed and we have had three tough games in a couple of days – maybe Borris-Ileigh with a game less, might have been a little bit fresher than us but we were able to dig it out and we are very happy about that.
“We are thrilled and we are into the preliminary county quarter final now with the Frank McGrath Cup going to Kiladangan, so it has been a good day.
Turning his attention to the county championship, even though the North men now have something of a cushion with a preliminary quarter final berth in their back pocket, John was adamant that getting back into action next Sunday will be a priority and the focus will be on ensuring that they are ready to meet the challenge of the Clonoulty/Rossmore men.
“It’s a very quick turnaround for us now with Clonoulty/Rossmore on the horizon next weekend. It’s all about freshening up the bodies and getting ready to go again next Sunday. That’s what it’s all about now and while the games are coming thick and fast, we are just delighted to be getting them,” O’Meara concluded.
