Council plan for Designated Bathing Area in Dromineer

Efforts to progress plans to create a ‘Designated Bathing Area’ chose to the shores of Lough Derg in Dromineer are being made by the local authority.

Nenagh Municipal District Administrator Rosemary Joyce informed local councillors at their last meeting that an application has been submitted to the Environment Protection Agency for the new bathing area.

The council had hoped to progress the project last year, but it failed to get off the ground.

Despite interviews being held for lifeguards, there were insufficient numbers available to provide a lifeguard service in 2024.

The project was again currently being looked at and the provision of facilities for lifeguards was being progressed, said Ms Joyce.

Turning to another lakeside amenity provided by the council at Castlelough, Ms Joyce said three new barbecue areas have been installed on the foreshore there and finalisation of outstanding work was awaited.
