Ukrainian Sunflower exhibition in Nenagh
Ukrainian children and young people aged 6-17 years old have been hard at work crafting and creating for the month of July at Nenagh Arts Centre.
The Silver Arch Family Resource Centre's Unity Youth Hub members have been using various tactile materials to craft sunflowers. These unique sunflower creations have been brought to life over the course of several workshops at Nenagh Arts Centre this past month, facilitated by the endlessly creative Olena Arkhanhelska.
These works of art are devoted to Ukraine's National Independence Day. The sunflower holds special significance and connection to Ukraine's Independence Day as a symbol of resilience, hope, and cultural identity. The sunflower, a national symbol of Ukraine, represents strength and perseverance, much like the journey of Ukrainian refugees, who seek to rebuild their lives in new communities.
The Ukrainian children and young people are currently putting the final touches on their sunflowers, which will be displayed at Nenagh Arts Centre for the month of August. By showcasing sunflower artwork, the exhibition fosters solidarity and awareness, allowing communities to stand in support of those affected by displacement. This connection not only honours Ukraine’s independence but also emphasises the importance of cultural preservation, integration, and unity in times of change.
The exhibition will officially launch at 6pm on Tuesday, August 5, at Nenagh Arts Centre. There will also be a gathering at 3pm on Thursday, August 21, to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day. Both events are free to attend, and all are welcome.
