Mia Gavin and Eoin Moynihan were the main winners of the top grade singles competitions at the Bowe Dental Nenagh Senior Open Tennis Championships which concluded last weekend.
Ennis’ Mia, a Nenagh U16 singles winner in 2022, defeated Anne-Marie Sheehan in the final, while Eoin Moynihan from Crosshaven, fended off the challenge of veteran Frank O’Keeffe who was going for three-in-a-row. Frank has a remarkable record in Nenagh singles finals, winning on eight occasions and being runner-up on five.
As always there were many outstanding performances, not all rewarded with success, throughout the ten-day tournament. There was a massive 431 entries across thirty graded events. Upwards of 25 different clubs, in varying numbers, were represented.
Entrants were confined to two events and among those who won two events were Gerhard Harmse who won Grade 4 singles, and doubles with Colin Ryan. Ryan was also a dual winner, winning the Grade 4 mixed with Claudia Costa Sitja, who herself was a dual winner, joining Deirdre Coffey to win the Grade 4 ladies doubles.
During the presentation, Club President George McGrath thanked Bowe Dental for their generous sponsorship of the tournament and Michael Ryan who represented Bowe Dental at the finals, sentiments also echoed by Tournament Director Willie Gleeson.
There was a really pleasant atmosphere around the club throughout the tournament, and George McGrath, President Nenagh LTC, complimented Tournament Directors Willie Gleeson and Kathryn McDowell and their assistants for their very efficient organisation of the tournament, and the extensive back-up team of members who facilitated the ancillary services.
