Your Council Day is taking place today, June 27.

Learn more about the role of councils

Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins is pleased to support Your Council Day 2025, and is encouraging members of the public to get involved and learn more about what local councils do for their communities.

Co-ordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), Your Council Day is taking place today, June 27, and seeks to raise public awareness of the important role that local authorities play in contributing to the physical, cultural, social, and environmental development of their communities.

Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins, said: “All across Ireland, every day, our local authorities have an impact on our quality of life.

“They provide over a thousand services to the public, from providing homes and essential services to supporting local businesses as well as working tirelessly to create places where people feel connected, supported, and proud to live.

“As Minister for Local Government, I want to recognise and thank our local authority staff, councillors, and partners for their dedication and commitment.

“Their efforts are essential not only to the functioning of local areas but to the overall social and economic wellbeing of our nation.

““Your Council Day” is an opportunity to raise awareness of how local government works and I would encourage members of the public to learn more about what their local council does for their community by following the #YourCouncilDay and #DoLásaChomhairle hashtags on social media.

“I look forward to working with all local authorities to ensure they have the support and resources needed to deliver for their communities now and into the future.”
