Cruinniú na nÓg for Unity Youth Hub

The Fairy House Art Programme was funded by Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 and designed specifically for the Ukrainian group from Unity Youth Hub.

Over the course of seven weeks, children and young people enthusiastically participated in creating and designing their own unique fairy house bases using everyday materials such as jars, foil, and clay. After constructing their bases, they added clay features to bring their imaginative designs to life, transforming them into magical, whimsical fairy houses.

Once the building phase was complete, the young artists carefully painted their creations, adding vibrant colors and personal touches. This phase of the programme fostered a sense of pride and anticipation as they prepared for the grand exhibition, which took place on June 7.

The workshops were led by Ukrainian artist Ilha Salikova, who generously shared her artistic skills and cultural heritage with the participants. Ilha ensured that every child felt valued, creating an atmosphere of warmth and inclusivity throughout the sessions. She found time for each young artist, adopting a highly individual approach that helped every participant shine.

The culmination of their hard work and creativity was celebrated at an exhibition held in Nenagh Tourist Office on June 7. The event was a joyful occasion, with families and community members gathering to support and admire the young artists’ work. Not even the rain showers could dampen the spirits of the many local families who attended.

During the event, each Young Artist was recognised for their creativity and dedication with certificates and sweet treats, acknowledging their efforts and achievements. The exhibition highlighted not only the artistic talent of the children but also the sense of community and cultural exchange that the Fairy House Art Programme fostered.

This special initiative not only provided a creative outlet but also built connections among Ukrainian families and the wider Nenagh community, creating lasting memories and a sense of belonging.

Olena Arkhanhelska, Child and Youth worker of Silver Arch Family Resource Centre, would like to express her gratitude to AnnMarie Keaveney for her outstanding coordination of the event.

Thanks also to Victoria Lee for her warm hospitality, and, of course, Olha Salikova, whose creative vision introduced us to the new world of clay art.
