Mawdsley competes at high-profile US Meet
Sharlene Mawdsley’s positive start to the outdoor season continued last weekend at a high profile meeting in the United States.
The Newport AC runner competed in the third instalment of Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track event, designed to create more big-money meets, and held at Penn University in Philadelphia.
It’s intention is to get more events where the best athletes take each other on since it's become the norm for individuals to tailor their schedules and skip typical meets as a result. The selling point is naturally increased prize money with Mawdsley enjoying a profitable weekend.
On Saturday she banked $15,000 for placing sixth in 51.12s in the 400m with Olympic gold medallist Marileidy Paulino winning the race. On Sunday, she competed in the 200m and recorded a season's-best time of 23.24s.
