All Ireland tug-of-war victory for Nenagh squad
When it comes to physically strong men, the Indian community living in Nenagh and surrounding areas can certainly say that they have riches of muscled males packed with power.
And these men have just proved that beyond any doubt, because they have just won an All Ireland title in a tug-of-war competition.
The team, called Cheers Nenagh, were themselves cheering with delight, along with their supporters, when they became the very first squad to win the All Ireland Indian Malayali Segment (TIIMS) competition on Sunday, May 18.
This inaugural event featuring teams from all over the country was hosted by Tug of War Ireland in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Dublin.
Tug of War Ireland said the exciting event celebrated the inclusive spirit of its sport and it welcomed the Indian community into the Tug of War family.
It said the competition proved to be a fantastic day of strength, teamwork, and cultural celebration.
Nenagh Catholic priest Fr Rexon Chullickal, himself a native of India, has congratulated his fellow countrymen living in Nenagh on their wonderful achievement.
He said the team were well prepared for the national competition. The squad members started training for the event five months ago and focused on weight training and strength conditioning at the Fitness Factory in Nenagh.
As the competition approached they practised regular tug-of-war sessions and were very fit and strong by the time competition day arrived. Most of the team comprises members of the Indian community living in Nenagh and surrounding areas.
“This was a proud and emotional victory for us,” said Fr Rexon.
As a gesture of gratitude following their victory, the team visited the local Saint Mary of the Rosary Church to give thanks.
Fr Rexon said they reflected on the spirit of humility, unity, and community that helped bring about this success.
The following team members participated in this achievement: Jeneesh, Mahesh, Vishnu, Antony, Shiva, Aneesh, Bibin, Lineesh, Baisal and Hari.
What a marvellous achievement. Well done to all concerned.
