Golf classic a huge success

A hugely successful golf classic took place at Templemore Golf Club over the May Bank Holiday weekend in aid of the building of the Sacred Heart Church in Mutare in Zimbabwe, the home parish of Fr Francis Mudungwe, who is currently serving the parish of Templemore, Clonmore and Killea.

This has now become the mission project of our parish for the next three years. Mutare is an area greatly affected by climate change and poverty. Previous building attempts were temporary and easily destroyed by wind and rain.

The new structure, though simple by Irish standards, will give dignity and security to over 2,000 worshippers in their religious practice as they attend Mass there. Our Parish and diocese are fortunate to have the services of both Fr Francis, and also Fr Francis Makoni, for the next couple of years. As a gesture of our appreciation to them, and in fulfilling the late Pope Francis' call to mission, we are very proud to support this church building work.

A great deal of credit is due to all involved in the organisation of the golf classic, which raised €7,640 and will do a tremendous amount of work in Mutare.
