Last gasp Cup glory for Knigh
For the third year in a row, Knigh United and Killavilla United came together in an NTSFL Cup final, this time at under 15 level.
The two teams battled it out in the searing heat on Saturday, the first half was all Knigh, but they just couldn’t convert the chances and the teams remained deadlocked.
For the second half, Killavilla brought on star striker Zoe Nash, and she immediately caused havoc within four minutes of the restart putting Killavilla in front.
But Knigh weren’t going to give up and they once again took the game to Villa, but they just couldn’t find the break through until, for the second year running, up popped Lily Brennan to score a goal out of nothing, to bring the sides level.
Shortly after, Jenna McSherry latched on to a through ball from Brennan, finishing brilliantly to take the lead. Killavilla drove on immediately from the restart forcing a corner, which they scored from to level.
It stayed like this which meant extra time. Killavilla went back in front just three minutes in, and with the heat with all the girls out on their feet, it looked like it was going to stay that way, when up popped Jenna McSherry to level again with two minutes to go. There was still time for a winner with Killavilla conceding a late penalty which was coolly converted by McSherry to complete her the hat-trick and give Knigh the Cup glory.
