Golf Ireland launches Volunteer Framework to strengthen Community and support Volunteers

Golf Ireland has officially launched its Volunteer Framework, to enhance support, recognition, and development opportunities for its community of over 400 dedicated volunteers across the island of Ireland.

The Volunteer Framework which was developed and designed through a consultative process by a dedicated working group, under the guidance of Chairperson Rosemary Tully, is the result of an extensive Volunteer survey carried out with National and Regional Golf Ireland volunteers in 2023.

The framework acknowledges and promotes the crucial role volunteers play in golf and outlines a strategic and best practice approach aimed at enhancing the volunteer experience through structured training, improved resources, dedicated volunteer related policies and increased recognition.

The Volunteer Framework is a one-stop resource aimed at supporting new and existing volunteers. The framework which supersedes the previous Golf Ireland Volunteer Policy will be the new guide for all things volunteer-related in the organisation.

In 2024, Golf Ireland delivered 41 targeted training programmes, alongside four regional Volunteer Appreciation Days attended by 180 volunteers.

“Volunteers are at the heart of golf in Ireland. They perform an array of tasks which include mentoring junior players, organising events, maintaining courses, and welcoming the golfers,” said Chairperson Rosemary Tully.

“This looks to ensure these vital contributions are fully recognised and supported, boosting the overall volunteer experience.”

Central to the framework is the implementation of Volunteer Management and Support technologies to streamline tasks, empower volunteers, and promote greater efficiency. Additionally, clear pathways are being introduced to attract younger individuals and create greater diversity, representing a cross-section of Irish society.

With volunteers actively engaged in over 750 roles across Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, Golf Ireland aims for an environment of collaboration, innovation, and growth. The framework promises to enhance the volunteer experience, offering opportunities for personal development, recognition, and increased satisfaction.

“Our Volunteer Framework reflects the core objectives of Golf Ireland’s Strategic Plan, supporting an inclusive and thriving volunteer network. Volunteers contribute expertise and dedication, and this framework means their efforts are celebrated and supported,” said Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly.

“The launch of the framework marks a major milestone for Golf Ireland. Investing in our volunteers allows us to invest in the future of Irish golf, ensuring it remains accessible, vibrant, and sustainable across Ireland. Together we can build a stronger golfing community.”
