Attempt at setting a world first
An attempt to set a world first record will be made at Newport on this Friday morning in association with a fundraising drive for the completion of the expenditure on developing magnificent local recreational facilities.
The Tipp FM and Newport Community Project 'Radio Run' is a combination challenge at establishing a new world record for a marathon and supporting the new facility.
Community support is invited on GoFundMe page https://www.gofundme.com/radiorun where is excess of €14,400 has been donated over the past 20 days.
The history-making marathon event will commence at the Boys National School at 10.30am and is scheduled to conclude at the starting point in early afternoon.
Tipp FM radio presenter Stephen Keogh is attempting to become the first person to run a marathon while broadcasting live on radio.
He will be joined by other full marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k runners on the day, most of whom are Newport locals.
The fundraising event is in aid of Newport Community Project (NCP), for the development of the running track, walkway, astro turf and other facilities, which local schools, clubs and wider community will benefit hugely from having access to.
A final drive of community support is needed to clear the outlay on the development at the rear of the Boys NS.
Local businesses have been invited to sponsor a mile for €100 (or more if possible) and individuals invited to donate on the organisers’ GoFundMe page.
All community support will be greatly appreciated and for those unable to be present on this Friday, they can tune in to Tipp FM to keep in touch.
