‘Age is not a barrier to being active’
‘Age is not a barrier to being active.’
That is the motto of Nenagh's Active Retirement group, which has been offering a greatly-valued social outlet for retired people in this locality for 25 years now.
The group presently has around 40 members, men and women from Nenagh and its hinterland, who meet up regularly. They go on seasonal excursions, most recently to Wexford and Kilkenny, taking in Johnstown Castle, JFK Memorial Park, the Dunbrody Famine Ship and Kilkenny City.
The group also organises regular talks on useful topics for members. Recent examples include a talk given by an expert on health and wellbeing; one from an AIB speaker on safe banking, and a talk from Nenagh's Community Garda.
Nenagh Active Retirement group helps people to get out of the house and meet with others of a similar age. Helping members to stay socially-connected and make new friends, the group is particularly helpful to people living in isolation.
Every member counts and those involved are encouraged to put forward ideas for activities they would like to see the group partake in.
New members are always welcome. Nenagh Active Retirement meets at Nenagh Library every second Thursday at 2.30pm. You are welcome to go along and see what it is all about.
