Newport RFC add more silverware to complete successful season

Newport RFC’s Junior team had another great day on Saturday when they won the Gleeson Cup beating Thurles 50-17 in the final in Thurles.

Newport has a proud history in junior rugby and this team set out at the start of the season to add another chapter to that story and nothing was going to stop the Gleeson Cup from resting in Rockvale Park for the next twelve months.

When the final whistle blew and the curtain fell on a tremendous season we looked across the pitch and saw something truly special.

A group of men some who had given up the game after minis or youths, some who just wanted to see the club thrive, all of them now bound by one thing: the jersey.

It brings to an end a successful season where wins have been recorded in the Under 13 North Munster Trophy, an Under 16 North Munster Trophy, the Carroll Plate and now the Gleeson Cup.

As we draw the curtain on this incredible season we want to thank our sponsors, everyone who’s supported “Split the Pot” and every single person who’s contributed in any way to this journey.
