Tipperary were already eliminated from the championship before they arrived in Páirc Uí Rinn on Friday evening to play Cork in their final round robin game in the Munster Minor Hurling Championship.

It didn’t help for their final round-robin game they were up against high-flying Cork who had secured their place in the final with a game to spare. Their wayward shooting didn’t help them either.

Sam Ring’s 20th minute green flag put the hosts 1-9 to 0-5 up. Craig O’Sullivan, who tallied ten points, was causing all sorts of problems. ‘Keeper Patrick McCormack made a vital save from Eoghan O’Shea and through Euan Murray and Chris Dunne Tipperary stayed in touch, 0-8 to 1-12 at the break.

They didn’t lie down. Tommy O’Meara’s goal two minutes into the second half gave them a lifeline. With a quarter of an hour to go four points separated the teams, crucially opportunities came and went.

Instead, it was Cork pushed for home when an unfortunate error by McCormack allowed Seán Coughlan in for the host’s second goal in the 51st minute, propelling them 2-15 to 1-10 clear.

At this juncture, the visitor’s lost corner-back Conor Collins to a second yellow for a foul on Cormac Deane.

Notably, all of Tipp’s second-half points came from the bench - Philip O’Dwyer, Harry Lawlor (2) and Jack Cahill.
