A hundred miles for the hospice

Leah walks every day in memory of aunt Susan Whelan

Walking 100 miles in October was the goal set by Leah Collins as she set out to raise funds for the Irish Hospice Foundation.

Leah (20) has been walking every day of the month, building up the mileage around her home in Capparoe and in Nenagh where she works.

She is doing it in memory of her aunt Susan Cunneen (née Whelan) of Shalee Cross, who died in January of last year. Daughter of Greta and Pat Whelan of McDonagh St, Nenagh, Susan was just 48 when she died at Milford Hospice following a battle with cervical cancer.

Describing her as “my beautiful auntie Susan”, Leah decided to pay tribute by taking on the walking challenge as a fundraiser for the service that supported her aunt and family.

“This is an amazing cause that helps so many families in different ways after the loss of their loved ones,” Leah wrote about her 100 miles in October challenge on Facebook.

“I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to donate or even share my posts. This is a cause very close to my heart since losing my auntie and I know she would be so proud of the money I have raised to help other families at a time when they need it the most.”

Leah has already raised over €1,400 for the Irish Hospice Foundation. You can support her at www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/LeahCollins.
