Brendan Cummins was given a two-year extension as Tipperary under 20 hurling manager, while James Woodlock was also given a two-year extension as minor hurling manager.
Presentation on underage spending
CEO Murtagh Brennan made a presentation to delegates outlining the costs associated with preparing underage teams.
In an effort to make clubs more aware of what Tipperary are spending their money on despite financial strain, it is being done without compromising standards on the field which were highlighted by regular successes over the last three years including two Munster & All-Ireland Minor hurling titles, a Munster under 20 success, two Harty Cup wins by Cashel Community School and Nenagh CBS, as well as numerous development squad tournament wins.
The costs associated annually in terms of preparing the development squads up to under 16 in hurling and Gaelic football come in around €200,000, €124,000 of that relating to the strength & conditioning link-up with Setanta College. The remainder includes staffing, physiotherapy, referees, video analysis, kit, sliotars/balls, pitch rental and feeding. There are no bus costs associated with development squads with parents/guardians bringing players to training and games and Brennan thanked them for their commitment.
Busses come into play for minor teams which comes to around €41,000 per annum while at under 20 level, players get travel expenses as the large majority come to/from school/college.
In terms of minor and under 20 panels, there is a limit of 35 players to train a maximum of three times per week with all fed after training, with the provider of meals tendered for to ensure value for money.
Physio costs for a team came come to €10-14k with similar for strength & conditioning as these teams do not come under the remit of Setanta College. There are also video analysis costs while members of the management teams receive expenses of 30c per kilometre.
