‘Mines man bows out with ultra-marathon cycle
For the past 47 years the unwavering commitment and exceptional work ethic of a man from the Parish of Silvermines have been evident to all that crossed his path in the Revenue offices of Dublin, Limerick and Nenagh.
Over nearly five decades Liam Keogh’s career stands as a testament to the values he holds dear: integrity, perseverance, and excellence.
Liam again displayed those qualities last week when in a parting gesture after almost a half century of service, he took on an ultra-marathon cycle to raise funds to help fight a deadly illness that has claimed the lives of some of his colleagues and impacted hugely on the life of another co-worker - Motor Neurone Disease.
Liam has been a colleague, mentor and friend to many, always willing to share his wisdom and support.
Liam’s ability to adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of Irish Revenue, from Debt Management to Charities, has set a standard for all to aspire. With retirement on the horizon, Liam’s legacy would grow with one final selfless gesture - as he decided to fundraise for the Irish Motor Nuerone Disease Association.
To do this Liam donned his Tipperary jersey and hopped on his electric bicycle. Then over four days he cycled to the Revenue offices of the Mid West in Limerick, Ennis, Listowel, Kilrush, Newcastlewest, before finishing the final leg to his home office back in Nenagh, covering over 300km along the way.
TRULY INSPIRED
Everyone Liam met along the journey have been truly inspired by this incredible act, and it is of little surprise to see the online donations supporting his charitable cause flying in - a total well surpassing €10,000 at this point.
There were joyous scenes in Nenagh on Thursday last when Liam completed his journey and cycled through the gates of Nenagh’s Revenue offices to rapturous applause from colleagues, friends and family.
Among those there to greet Liam at the finish was his friend and colleague Noreen Leahy who is bravely fighting Motor Neurone Disease.
Liam’s efforts have left such a positive impact on everyone who supported him along the way and his fundraising will do such valuable work in supporting and assisting others with Motor Neurone Disease.
